Grisham

I just finished reading The Broker by John Grisham. I keep thinking I don't like John Grisham. I don't like lawyer books. I don't usually care so much for plot-driven thrillers. But the reality is, he writes well and smoothly. I'm not distracted by his prose, which is more than I can say for most plot-driven thrillers. And, well, I guess I read all of his books eventually. It helps that they are strewn across every beach house and laundromat in America, because I can read them for free. Also, that Krista and her mom buy them.

I will say this, though. John Grisham clearly wrote this one just so he could have a tax-deductible vacation to Italy. His heart wasn't really in the book.

Best Grisham book (so far): A Painted House. No lawyers. Character driven. Still has smooth writing.

I also just finished another, better, greater book. I will fill you in on it sometime in the next couple of days.

Thumbs up on Painted House. The Testament was pretty good, too. And Skipping Christmas. OK, confession- those are the only three Grisham books I've ever read.

I am a John Grisham fan. Actually, I would probably never read them except the fact that my mom owns almost every book he's ever written. So, by default he's my summer reading program. My favorites include: The Street Lawyer, The Brotherhood and of course, The Firm (the book is always better than the movie). But oddly enough, I have never read Painted House.

  3. It's hard for me to be a literary snob. But I try, at least.

I remember borrowing Painted House from Krista. But I really couldn't get into it. I was surprised how much of the gospel Grisham shares in the Testament. Love it when writers and entertainers preach it in a bold and tasteful way. Did you watch American Idol recently when that lady said she forgave Simon's rude remark about her weight? Apparently she said something like, "If Jesus could forgive me I can certainly forgive you." Yeah, girl! Too bad I missed that episode....

Dude, your email must be messed up. First, I never received the email you "allegedly" sent. Now you aren't getting the email I send to you. Hey, do you even read comments on posts this old? Do you ever get a little anxious when having to type in that code when you comment? I'm nervous that I'll spell it wrong or something...
