The Best Rejection Letter Ever

You may remember (probably not) this post, where I sent off a story to "the New Pantagruel". Well, one of the editors wrote me a long e-mail yesterday and said he had some suggestions for it (that it be longer and have a stronger ending) and that with those revisions he might like to publish it. Woo hoo! He also offered to spend some time talking about it with me ON THE PHONE! Can you believe that? Okay. As you can see I am pretty excited, so I have to calm down so I can seem cool and collected when we talk on the phone. Ha ha! Anyway, this is my first ever requested re-write from an editor. I wish you could see my doing my Happy Dance right now.

So, Matt is a closet intellectual. He totally mocked me for quoting Jurgen Moltmann ... proudly intimtated that he prefers Sponge Bob Square Pants ... but secretly, he has a "Chestertonian commitment to a fully nuanced Christian humanism" I bet he secretly knew all 16 quotes (from Tertullian to Bertrand Russell) that Ronnie Stevens used in one winter conference talk.

YAY!!! That is very exciting! I am sure you will keep us informed. :) By the way... I have a very cute video of Shannon singing the ABC song on my myspace page. You should check it out... particularly the end. On the TV in the background there is a commercial for Flying Colors and Joe is wearing a santa hat. :) I just noticed it and thought you would like to check it out.

    Happy New Year!!!

  3. Aha. Well, Carolyn. You found me out. It's all about the target audience, you see. As it happens Chesterton is one of my favorite authors.

In other news, I have been reading "Bizarro Comics" today because it's my day off, so you can see that my intimations of pop culture preferences are not wholly false.

Notice also that my good friend Kerry points out "flying Colors" (yes a comic book store) as well as children singing the ABC song (clearly a barb meant to imply that I could not have a story possibly published when I am barely literate).

In closing, I would like to say, "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?" And I would like to say also that I have no idea who G.K. Chesterton is. I think he is a starfish or other aquatic animal in the aforementioned kiddie show. Right?
