Imaginary Jesus: FATAL ALLIANCE ON DUNE WITH THE ROUGH BEASTS OF EMPIRE!!!!!!

One of the things I like about Amazon is when the book gets to certain ranks (it was in the low 6,000s today!), they compare the book to other books in the same genre.

Of course, no one seems to be able to figure out what genre Imaginary Jesus belongs to, so it ends up in categories like this one: Science Fiction Adventure! In which IJ dukes it out with Star Trek, Star Wars and Dune.

Now, if only I could get six or twelve Imaginary Jesus movies and a television series or two under my belt, I think IJ would have a fighting chance.

  3. Well, you're in pretty good company if you ask me. I have thought about what genre IJ is, and it seems to me that it is a fusion of genre's which makes it hard to classify. It's kind of like the screwball comedy's back in the day, from Bringing Up Baby to It's a Madmadmadmad world. It's got a little Pilgrim's progress feel. It reads off the page a little like the writing of Douglas Adams. It feels like a lot of different things as you move through it. IMHO, the difficulty in pinpointing the genre reveals that you're doing something interesting.

  5. Jack, I'm pretty sure I have Dune, you can just borrow it from me. I'm already outsold by it by today I'm sure anyway.

OneBigHappy... thanks! I like writing genre smash ups. Makes it hard to categorize, but that's part of the fun.

Yellow and Prepare4Rain... hmmm. This might need to be a blog post of its own.

  6. Matt, I have not read Vonnegut in many years, but your writing makes me laugh from the same place as Kurt's did. Well done.

I see IJ as a graphic novel, cable series, animated feature, radio drama, merchandise, board game etc. etc. Can you say FRANCHISE! And who can play Matt? VINCE VAUGHN! :)

  9. That's hilarious! And commenters are right: this would make a great movie! Just as IJ's not the usual Christian book, it wouldn't be the usual Christian movie.
