I've noticed that my name causes trouble for the casual reader. "Matt Mikalatos" too easily translates to "Mike." So I've been thinking of using a new name for my fiction. Or rather, just going by "Matthew" instead of Matt.
But I thought I'd give the BHR community a chance to vote. When you are reading a story by yours truly, what name would you prefer to see on the byline:
A) Matt Mikalatos
B) Matthew Mikalatos
C) Mike Mattalatos
D) Michael Connelly
E) (insert the name of your choice)

First!
ReplyDeleteI just thought I would say that, since all famous blogs have religious followers (pun intended) who have to get their comment in first...
Anyways, I think you should go by Matt Mikalatos. Stick to your guns; and shoot anyone who's in your way.
Second!
ReplyDeleteOh.
Dang it.
Thanks for your thoughts, Jesse. I will ponder them carefully while I polish my six shooters.
I agree with Jesse, stick with Matt Mikalatos.
ReplyDeletePseudonyms can be very handy, though...
ReplyDelete... so I'm voting for Mick Mackalatos...
Hhmmm... how about Professor Matthew Mikalatos?
ReplyDeleteOr you can drop the Professor. Anyway, Matthew looks more professional, but I will always refer to you as just Matt.
Or you can borrow my secret name if you want: Clark Kent.
What about Matthew Mikalatos, PhD. Then we can call you Dr. Mikalatos, or for short, Doc.
ReplyDeleteI like 'Mike Mattalatos'. Everytime the BHR folks see it they will smile at the inside joke.
ReplyDeleteSort of along the lines of Nathan's suggestion... maybe Mick Mack Paddywhackalatos?
ReplyDeleteAll of those are terrible ideas, including "Matt Mikalatos." Terrible!
ReplyDeleteSteel yourself for...
Derek Handsomson!
Just imagine, no confusion, and you can say, "Handsomson, without the 'e'."
-Adam H
Ahhh, the mysterious Adam H. Could it be that your last name is... "Handsomson"?
ReplyDeleteAnd who is the anonymous stranger who came up with Mick Mack Paddywhackalatos?
what happened to
ReplyDeleteMIKALATI MIKALATI (high voice)
mikalati mikalti (low voice)
that used to be your favorite song. i dont even know who you are anymore.
I must agree with anonymous. Mick Mack Paddywhackalatos is the best choice.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. I go by a pseudonym, 'Christopher' for an air of professionalism at work and it doesn't seem to help me at all. 'Matt' is an integral piece of what you write, it is who you are, and I don't think changing your author-name would increase your readership any.
ReplyDeleteA half-serious thought is to go the j.r.r. tolkein route if you must change your name. m.p?mikalatos...sheesh, I can't remember your birthday and don't even know your middle initial for certain...I am the GREATEST friend in the world!
captain supremo.
ReplyDelete'nuff said
Matthew Blogalatos.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest comment here goes to Sarah's "I don't even know who you are anymore", which is I think a quote from a movie, probably several movies, and made me lol.
But I like the MickMack... and the Mikalati.. as well. Of course, none of this gets you anywhere on your question.
Wow. The comments section is en fuego!
ReplyDeleteI never imagined the controversy this would spark.
I will say that the "anonymous" person who brought forward the idea of Mick Mack Paddywhackalatos called me to reveal her secret identity.
Chris-- "P" is correct, sir. You can always remember this by thinking "Matt's name is full of 'P'." And you, as I recall, are "C.T."
Rob E-- As always your supreme intelligence overshadows us all. Which is why I have always thought of you as He-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed.
Global Road-- You're right, Sarah is very, very funny. I'll introduce you guys in Korea.
As for you, Sarah... no more telephone calls during LOST. Or else... death by bus!
Any more thoughts on pen names or lack thereof?
