Some people say that the "Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil" in the Garden of Eden was
actually a pomegranate. I buy it. I think Adam and Eve took a bite and blood red juice got all over them and stained their skin.
Grenades are named after them.
It's also the inspiration for the
best phone ever. I don't know if you can get it in the States yet.
One issue: don't you think it should be spelled "pomagranite"?
Actually, brother, the pomegranate is a fruit with many spiritual connotations, though being the forbidden fruit in Paradise is not one of them. The decorations on holy garments and other things in ancient Israel were pomegranates.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of the new covenant, the pomegranate is a natural icon of the Church, from the outside it looks sometimes formidable, sometimes rustic, it is a mystery how to open it, but to him who is brave enough to try, it is opened by cracking it open to reveal a whiteness within, jewelled with the sparkling blood-red seeds of the martyrs of Jesus.
