Stumbled on a weird and wonderful blog today that puts up strange maps
and then comments on them in detail... everything from a Russian thinker's future US map (for after our financial collapse) to a map like the one above... detailing by color where people prefer to call soft drinks "soda" or "pop" or "coke." Click on the map for a closer look, it's well worth it.
Obviously the correct term is soda. But I grew up in California, so maybe that's just my cultural bias showing. Feel free to leave a comment defending your own preference.
"Soda Pop" didn't make it in. Bummer. -RobiReplyDelete
Hilariously enough, there's a thin stripe of "soda" through the south-west-ish portion of Illinois, where some of my relatives are from. They pronounce it "sod-ee"...ReplyDelete
I'm confused. I grew up in Idaho (mostly), and have lived in Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Kansas since 2001. (Spent 1 yr. in eastern Wisconsin)ReplyDelete
I've called it "soda" for nearly 30 years. Where did I pick that up?
I found this chart to be very interesting. Especially interesting in the counties in Texas surrounded by 'coke' maniacs who call soda "Other". Weird.ReplyDelete
Can I just get a Pepsi coke please?ReplyDelete
my dad's from seattle so his side of the family says "pop", but my mom's from ca and i grew up in ca so i DEFINITELY say "soda"!! "pop" seems so old fashioned.ReplyDelete
