UFOs I believe in

Earlier this week I got home from speaking at a retreat in Iowa to discover this waiting in my mailbox:

Yes, that's a medieval king being married
to a robot by a tentacled Lovecraftian horror.

It's the anthology Unidentified Funny Objects 2, a collection of hilarious science fiction, fantasy, and horror. I had a story in the first anthology called "Working Stiff" about a down-on-his-luck vampire. I have a story in the second anthology, as well, a sequel called "A Stiff Bargain" in which my down-on-his-luck vampire battles the evil of... PRANK CALLS!

There are a lot of funny stories in here by big names in the speculative fiction community, like Robert Silverberg, Jim Hines, Ken Liu and Mike Resnick. And of course, a tiny little name in the speculative fiction community, Matt Mikalatos.

You can buy UFO 1 and 2 here, direct from the publisher. It's also available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and all the other places where you might like to purchase books. If you'd like to read a review first, there's one here (SPOILER: it's good).

If you like science fiction, fantasy, horror or comedy, check it out!

This commercial made me laugh a lot: New Spock vs. Old Spock

The new Star Trek movie is coming soon!

And you know we're all going to see it no matter what the reviewers say.

While we're waiting, enjoy this commercial:

Life of Magnum Pi

My friend Shelby Abbott and I were talking about his mustache the other day and I told him about this idea for a funny short film I had called, "LIFE OF MAGNUM PI." He tweeted it out and Brady Green made this amazing poster for it.

Coming to a theatre near you. Hollywood, our operators are standing by for your phone call offering millions of dollars. I am willing to go as low as two million dollars.

Wonderful Wednesday: Snookles the Baby Dragon

I can't believe I finally found this. I've been looking for it on the internet for years. I first saw it in my short film class in college (1993? 94?) and have always remembered it fondly.

Now it will be burned into your memory. Behold... Snookles the baby dragon!

I have no excuse for this. I am weak. And now you must be subjected to: "Batman Maybe."

I don't know how this happens. I'm almost positive I had never heard the song "Call Me Maybe" before I started posting videos in which the song is sung by President Obama.

And, I can't believe I'm saying this, but this song does have spoilers for The Dark Knight Rises. So be warned.

Regardless, this video made me happier than it should have:

Undecided voters

I don't usually post about politics, but as an undecided voter I knew I needed to share this with all of you.

I have questions this year, too. Like: how long after the election until NPR starts doing shows I care about again?

How about you? What questions do you have going into this election season?

How the Avengers Should Have Ended

Hey, since we talked about Spider-Man this morning, why not make it a SUPERHERO MOVIE day here at BHR?

Here's a very funny look at what SHOULD have happened at the end of The Avengers. If you haven't already seen the movie there are some spoilers here.

Darth Vader at Home

This made me laugh. Rough translation below.

Vader: Hello sergeant, what's the problem?

Sergeant: Good afternoon, sir, is this your son?

 Vader: Luke....

Luke: No! you aren't my father!

Vader: Luke, use the force and search out your feelings. In your heart you know that it is true.

 Luke: Oh well.

Vader: You are grounded, young man! What did he do this time?

Female Cop: Do you know the Deathstar? The big one?

Vader: Why? What's up with it?

Sergeant: Well, let's put it this way... I hope you have good insurance! Have a nice one.
