Faux pas

My mormon friends came by today to try to figure out a good time for us to get together again.

Me: Could you guys get together tomorrow at like 2 o'clock?

Elder: Yes, that would work.

Me: We could meet here and go grab coffee.

(Awkward silence.)

Me: Oh, yeah. You aren't allowed to drink coffee, are you?

Elder: No.

  1. Reminds me of a "Life in Hell" the comic strip by Matt Groening pre-Simpsons. One was where the Rabbit dude is in Hell and he says "But they told me it was decaf". I am not positive but I took it as a Morman reference.

I don't think so. The cartoon is reversed out - ie. it is all black, with the line drawings in white. All there is against the black are Rabbit's wide staring eyes. So it is middle of night, and he's wide awake "but they told me it was decaff".(!!)
I don't recal any reference to hell, in the cartoon. But, just maybe, as a Brit I am missing some coded Mormon reference...
